Real estate values extension
A small Chrome extension that keeps a property's value current. Save the listing URL on a Real estate account, and opening that account reads the property's current estimate and records it.
Each new value is booked as an ordinary ledger row for the change since the last one, so your net worth and trend line pick it up with no special handling, and what the property was thought to be worth last year stays in the ledger. Every entry is editable, deletable, and undoable like any other.
It reads Redfin today. Nothing is fetched by Ember's servers: the page is read in your own browser, in a background tab that closes itself.

Use it
- Add an account of type Real estate, or edit an existing one.
- Find the property on Redfin and copy its page
address straight from the address bar. A house looks like
redfin.com/TX/Austin/1234-Example-St-78704/home/12345678; a condo has a unit in it too,redfin.com/NY/Brooklyn/1-Northside-Piers-11249/unit-14E/home/40668222. Paste it into the account's Account URL field. That is the entire setup. - Open that account's Ledger. A chip in the header reports the value it found, and a new row appears if the value has moved since last time. If the value has not changed, nothing is written.
By default it re-checks a property at most once every 14 days, since an estimate moves on the order of weeks. Change that in the extension's toolbar popup, which also holds the on/off switch and the last value seen for each property.
An estimate is an opinion, not an appraisal, and it can be wrong by more than the amount you would notice. Treat the number as a running approximation of what the property is worth, and edit or delete any entry you disagree with.
